Vintage French Art Deco "Montral" Mechanical Powder Compact

This vintage powder compact is a rare and fascinating piece of French vanity history, designed to resemble a classic pocket watch. Beautifully engraved with "Made in France" along the rim and bearing the original "Breveté SGDG". This piece was invented by the French designer Jacques Schall in the late 1920s.

Designed for loose powder, the "Montre à Poudre" opens to reveal an ingenious, clockwork-like interior. An original mirror is set into the inside of the lid. On the side, a roulette wheel—placed exactly like a watch crown—rotates an internal spiral arm to dispense the perfect amount of powder through the perforated plate without spills.
